On this day in 1967, Everton legend Jimmy Gabriel left Everton for Southampton in a £42,500 deal.

Jimmy played 304 times scoring 37 times for Everton after he joined from Dundee for £27,000 in 1960.

The Scottish international won the League title in 1962/63 and the FA Cup in 1966. 

Jimmy came back to Goodison Park in 1990, where he became assistant to Colin Harvey.

He was briefly caretaker manager for one game in November 1990 and for seven games between December 1993 and January 1994. 

He continued coaching Everton's reserves until 1997.
