Everton Hero

On this day in 1970 Everton played Borussia Munchengladbach in the 2nd Round 2nd Leg at Goodison in the European Cup.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw, the same score as the first leg, Johnny Morrissey had scored for Everton on the night.

So for the first time in European history (another first) the game was to be decided on penaties.

Goalkeeper Andy Rankin was the hero as Everton won 4-3.
