Another Ernie Disguise

On this day in 1970 Everton went to Highfield Road and lost 2-1 to Coventry City. It was a conterversial stike by ex-Everton player Ernie Hunt which grabbed the headlines, was it legal or not the perform the 'donkey kick'? A free kick was awarded just outside the box, Willie Carr took the ball between his heels and flicked it up behind him for Ernie to volley home past Andy Rankin. The laws were subsequently changed ruling that there had been a double-touch, a bit too late for Everton!
