Everton Football Club Life President, Sir Philip Carter has died.

Sir Philip joined the Everton board in 1977 and was chairman during the most successful period in the 1980's.

Carter stuck by manager Howard Kendall in the 1980s, despite calls from some supporters for him to be sacked at the time.

Kendall then went on to win two league titles, an FA Cup win in 1984 and the Cup Winner's Cup in 1985.

The 87 year old died at home on Thursday 23rd April after a short illness.
