Mirallas Hopes To Play On Howard's Weakness
Bookmark and Share

Belgium take on USA in the last 16 of the World Cup in Brazil tomorrow. Everton's Kevin Mirallas and Tim Howard will be on opposite sides and both fancy their chances.

Tim has played in goal for USA in all the group games, whereas Kevin has grown into the tournament by coming on as a sub in one game and then starting the last game against South Korea, when he played well in the 1-0 win.

Kevin said: "Me and Tim have a good relationship. We've known each other for two years and he is a great guy. A superb goalkeeper. Today, I will call him and talk with him a bit about Tuesday's match and we will just laugh.

"I think he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, along with Thibaut Courtois. I think they are two very good keepers. With Tim, I know his qualities but I also know his weaknesses. I hope that will benefit my team.

"We are more excited than nervous. This is the first time these players have played in the last 16. We feel good, and we know that we have an entire country behind us.

"I hope we will continue to make people dream and make history for our country.

"Since the beginning of the tournament, referees have been trying to protect players who are technically strong.

"It is never easy for them because there is a lot of contact in the World Cup. But so far there have not been too many mistakes. I hope that will continue."

Tim knows Kevin and former Everton players Fellaini and Lukaku will be difficult to beat, but is confident of going all the way to the final like his manager Jurgen Klinsmann.

Tim said: "I will speak to those guys before Tuesday and it will be great to see them before the game.

"They are guys I love. Fellaini is a great friend of mine, we spent a lot of good years together.

"It will be exciting to see and speak to them - but then it's time to rock and roll. I hope the inside knowledge I have of them helps, although they have inside knowledge on me too.

"People have told me that Lukaku has had a difficult tournament. I have seen some of the games.

"Romelu was brilliant for us at Everton. He went through a spell when he wasn't scoring every game and then he caught fire again, so I wouldn't read too much into that.

"Jurgen has been nothing but positive. He is telling our families to change our flights to July 14 as we will be here until the very end.

"That speaks volumes of how positive he is, how much he believes in this team and it trickles down to all of us."
