Everton Fan Delivers 700 Football Shirts To Kids In Brazil
Bookmark and Share

Evertonian Dave Thompson put a smile on kids' faces whilst watching England in the World Cup in Brazil.

Dave and other England fans presented over 700 football shirts to kids in Diadema in Sao Paulo. The shirts were donated by Football fans and clubs from all over the country.

Diadema is one of the poorest areas in São Paulo and crime rate was horrendous, but since Acer Brasil started this project 2 years ago crime rate has fallen, murders are a fraction of what they were and investment is coming to the city, even 2 banks have opened there and because of crime rates were never there before.

Brazilian international David Luiz is from Diadema and the project.

Dave was proud to give the kids a full kit donated by Everton and also a full Kit from Marine FC.

Dave said: "All the kits everyone kindly donated have been delivered to the project - over 700 shirts were donated - they were delighted.

"Today I and a number England Fans visited the project and spent the day with the kids from 5 they to 16.

"They are all from poor backgrounds and come from families of either abuse, drugs, criminal and other elements - there are 7000 kids in the project and because of the project thru sport and other activities such as martial arts, art and music the murder rate in Diadema is fallen by 90% in the last 2 years - there used to be 4 or 5 murders every week....

"After the visit there was a ceremonial handing over of shirts for the kids - all the shirts has been individually wrapped in gift paper so the kids did not fight over which shirt they got - the kids faces when they got them were a delight

"Some of the full kits that where donated are to be used for local kids and adolescent teams and I managed to get a few photos of some of these but some were already in use in the community

"I will send some photos when I get a chance but for your info BBC, ITV were both there and I believe good morning Britain on Friday is to screen footage from the visit -

"The BBC are also screening some but they haven't said when it will be aired yet - however if you come across the footage and you am own goal being scored by an old man in a yellow  shirt then that may be me - but I was asked to do it to improve the story.

"That's my story and I'm sticking to it"

Well Done Dave!

Why don't we designate the new strip for immediate shipment to the slums of Rio.

Dave, this is an example of why were all proud to be Evertonians - so do you now start supporting Brazil!?

Great stuff, well done Dave, hope you told them that the red shirts (our neighbours) were to be used as extra bogroll.
