My first match was Everton 2 Newcastle 0 17th August 1996 (the day Beckham scored from halfway line) Unsworth and Speed with the goals.

40,117 were at Goodison Park for the first game of the season. Kevin Keegan's Newcastle had Alan Shearer a world record £15m transfer capture making his debut, but it was Everton's Number 9, Duncan Ferguson who was the man of the match. The Scot pressured Steve Watson into giving away a penalty. David Unsworth scored and five minutes before half time, Big Dunc headed Graham Stuart's cross into the path of the boyhood Evertonian Gary Speed who marked his debut with a goal in front of the Gwladys Street. Manager, Joe Royle was a happy Everton manager.

EVERTON:  Neville Southall, Earl Barrett, Dave Watson, David Unsworth(Craig Short 45'), Andy Hinchcliffe, Andrei Kanchelskis, Graham Stuart, Joe Parkinson, John Ebbrell, Gary Speed, Duncan Ferguson.

Newcastle: S Hislop, S Watson, S Howey, P Albert, J Beresford, K Gillespie, D Batty, R Lee, D Ginola(P Beardsley, 69'), L Ferdinand, A Shearer.

My Dad (God Bless Him) took me to Goodison for my very first game 26th September 1953. We beat Derby 3-2 with goals from Tommy Eglington, C Lello and J W Parker. Can't really remember much about it but Dad had everything written down teams attendance etc he must have thought it a milestone in my life.
