Excited About Europe
Excited About Europe

The big question on everyone's lips is what team will Martinez pick.

The Everton manager has gone on record of saying the whole squad will be used during September, with 7 games to play.

We hope he leaves the Capital Cup game at Swansea next week to give youth a chance and we think he will.

One decision he may make is in goal. Last season Robles was prefered to Howard in the FA Cup and the Capital Cup. We hope he leaves Tim in goal for this first Europa League game. Unfortunately we don't think he will.

The other players who may come in are Atsu for McGeady, Eto'o for Lukaku, Besic for McCarthy, Distin for Jagielka and Gibson for Barry. It's a squad game and those players must be itching for a start.

The ones we are a little worried about are Browning for Coleman and Garbutt for Baines. Both the youngsters are talented players and ready, but we'd rather see the experienced players in the team, especially with so many changes around the team and the Wolfsberg manager has pointed them out as the danger.

Roberto said: "Samuel Eto'o and Sylvain Distin will be back for Thursday plus the 18 players we had on Saturday, plus Tyias Browning,"

"Bryan Oviedo and Arouna Kone will be fully fit very soon and Tony Hibbert will be back for the game a week on Tuesday against Swansea in the Capital One Cup.

"We are very excited, as you can imagine, and we have been working hard for over 12 months to achieve this opportunity.

"The Europa League is a great competition and is where we need to be testing ourselves. The only way to fulfil our potential is to be playing games like the one we are going to face tomorrow.

"The draw has been kind in the way, that it will bring two phenomenal football teams with the quality of Lille and Wolfsburg to Goodison, and then a really surprising package with FC Krasnodar, who beat Real Sociedad in the previous play-off round.

"In terms of the group stage, it's a phenomenal challenge for us. But that's what we want at Everton. We embrace playing in Europe.

"I have been really impressed by Wolfsburg. They are a well-structured team and the midfielders give really good balance to the side, and experience. They have full international players who know how to play these occasions.

"De Bruyne, a player we know from his time at Chelsea, has gone to the next level and is really important. In the forwards, they have Olic, Arnold and Hunt in the number 10 position. They have a really strong side.

"As a player, you want to play games. If it means playing Thursday and Sunday, then that's what you want.

"If you have a whole week to prepare for one game, you need two really hard training sessions. As a player I don't think you really look forward to coming into training and putting a lot of effort into that. Football is contact sport and if you can avoid injuries, you welcome games.

"We have got seven games in a little over three weeks and the squad is desperate to embrace that.

"We are in a situation where I do believe we have really good competition for places. There are places up for grabs and that's what we want to be looking at - the level of performance we can get in a short period of time."

Everton from: Howard, Coleman, Distin, Jagielka, Baines, Barry, McCarthy, Osman, Eto'o, Lukaku, Robles, Hibbert, Stones, Alcaraz, Gibson, Besic, McGeady, Naismith, Mirallas, Atsu, Pienaar, Eto'o, Browning .

Jogger's Starting XI: Tim, Seamus, Jags, Buzz, Bainsey, Mo, Baz, Super Kev, Naisy, Atsu, Eto'o.

Martinez Expected XI: Robles, Coleman, Jagielka, Distin, Garbutt, Atsu, Besic, Gibson, Mirallas, Naismith, Eto'o.

With respect to the opposition, if we play our passing game as we can, then we should put this one to bed farly comfortably, Olic is the danger an oportunist striker who needs to be kept quiet. We have the players and the means at our disposal. I expect El Bob to take few chances in team selection, only when there is safe passage may he bring in fringe players for maybe the last match, or if we are 2 or 3 up. He wants to win a trophy whether it is the Europa, Carling or FA Cup, and you have to play your best side that is the conundrum he has to face.

I think that the XI picked there is still quite strong, I would be happy with that. As long as Lukaku, Baines, McGeady, etc were on the bench. I think to go through in the competition you need to win your home games, I would rather see us take more of a chance with the young players in the away games

I don't think Martinez will be frivolous with his team selection, although everyone in the squad is capable of doing a job Martinez knows the importance of this competition to Everton and we want to give a good account of ourselves against top opposition. I reckon buzz may come back in to partner jags, while eto'o will get a run out instead of lukaku for his experience. The only other change I can see happening is McCarthy or Barry getting a rest and Besic/Gibson slotting in to run that midfield.

Really looking forward to the game tonight, you can't beat European nights. It will be a good measure of where we are in Europe depending on the team we start. German teams are on fire at present. However, I think Atsu and Eto will score and we will win 2- 1. COYB!!!!
