Mintoff, while that sounds a good idea in theory the logistics of doing so in practice would be a nightmare. BK couldn't do a physical raffle as such as people would not be able to come up and purchase a ticket from them, perhaps they might be able to accept e-mail purchases of raffle tickets and allocate a ticket number but then how do they receive payment? Paypal is one way but they ge charged 10-15% so lose some of the money. The other way is bank transfer, but do they really want to sit and e-mail one of their bank details to so many people in order to get £1 each? By doing this auction they allow plenty of people time to place a bid, only need to receive one payment and none of the money is taken by the likes of paypal/western union for money transfers. These guys have done this for years, they know what they are doing.

Wouldn't it have been a better idea to raffle off Darren's boots for perhaps a £1 per ticket? Surely this would have generated more money for such a good cause (just a thought). Best wishes to THE FOYLE HOSPICE.
